Put the stub next to the payroll register. Names, dates, gross, taxes, and year-to-date either match or they do not.

Keep the figures tied to a real payment

A mismatch is an error in the file. It is not something to sand down so the PDF looks smoother.

Preview before you pay

Open the pay record form, type the wages that were paid, and preview the PDF before you pay. One stub is the single-document price. Two or more use the multi-document price. Do not use the PDF to misrepresent income.
